The Royals and Gentleman Beau.

It seems 2011 kicked Her Royal Arse but good,

beginning with Hurricane Irene, the first Hurricane that came ashore in New Jersey in QM's lifetime.

Then Labor Day kicked Our Seasonal Depression into High Gear much earlier than expected.

And so, We sincerely apologise for not keeping you all, Beau's extended family, updated with his welfare.

Beau is doing Marvelously!!

I've posted a few short videos to YouTube,

and I thought I would "paper" the remainder of this post with as many photos

Brutus and Beau are now officially BroFurs!!

A cute thing happened last night. One of my neighbors came to the door, Brutus' Favorite, as it happens. Well, as is his custom, he finds a way around my futile attempt to block him, and slips into the hall to greet her. When she opened her door to her apartment, (she's right across from me) Brutus saunters in, also as his is custom. He's gone a visitin' with Aleksandra on several occasions, but last night wasn't a good time, so I had to fetch him.

Beau has been wanting out also, as of late, and seeing Brutus accomplish his escape spurred Beau into a

Protest Mode.

(A little back story - Beau has the most adorable chirp, not a "mehoww" but a
"Puuuuurrrrrt?", his voice rising at the end!)

He lay by the door, smelling, reaching out and "pppuurrrrt?"-ing for the better part of 20 minutes!

I still have that retched harness, and thought well, maybe he wants a walkabout, and it is permitted to have your pet on a leash anywhere in the building, so I called Beau over, rattling the harness and he came jogging over.

He took one good sniff of it, and backed away!

I've seen a vest-type of Harness somewhere.

They even come in woofie sizes.

Just wanted to post this video I took of Beau today. I feel pretty confident that in, ohhhh, another 2 weeks he just might let me close enough to take off that dang harness that's twisted around and looking all miserable on him. Dr. Steinberg advised I NOT try for fear of another bite. (My hand is, I would say, 90% better, buit tomorrow I think I might make an appointment with the I.D. Specialist, because my knuckles on my left hand are still sore and swollen. I just don't want anyone reporting this bite to any authorities. "Authorative Types" are generally @$$-XXXX, well, fill in the "blank"!)

Brutus is NOT faring well at all this time. She gave me a referral, of a specialized Vet that can do diagnostics, which he never really had, to confirm Asthma or something else - a "Lavage" of his lungs.
Also, it's been 4 years since he's had a full work-up...I want him to outlive me, so I need to get onto this asap...

I will try to post Videos to YouTube first then sending them here, because I think - well, hope - Blogger is happier this way.

He's not felt comfortable about his "Ham-mick" (I think he feels a little too "exposed" in it) but Brutus is lovin' his, thank you Mo! (It is now withstanding 22.8lbs of Red Texas ManCat - I can't believe he GAINED A POUND since JUNE! Oy! And I've had him on Iams DIET formula! His "Tinker Bell Laser", unfortunately met an early demise.) He will chase that when he's feeling well.
He will feel well again.

I let a Kodak Moment slip away yesterday.

With proceeds from the Auction, the first shipment of Feliway diffusers and sprays arrived, and is doing magical things.

Beau was in the Wing Back Chair in my bedroom, a favorite spot of his now.

I had tossed him a few of his toys, especially one I'd seen moved about: a Goldfish.

I had also spritzed my flannel jammies with Feliway!

I chirped to him in a way I had heard him do, and rolled on my back, acting - well, hoping I was acting "cat-like".

He eventually placed his chin down atop the Goldfish and closed his eyes.

I watched him as he gradually rolled over, as if to mimic me.

I began chatting again, inching closer as I spoke.

By the time I reached him, he had turned belly-up and was chirping.

I asked if he "wanted scritches" and he very nearly let me.

I got as far as his nose.

Brave, considering I have a referral to an Infectious Disease Specialist for what has so far defied 2 courses of antibiotics.

Then, as if someone snapped their fingers, Beau deftly righted himself with a "who-whut?" look on his "face."

A wee growl and he moved clear of my reach.

But stayed on the chair.

At the bottom of the page, there's a cat-to-Human age converter.

In Human years, Beau is 64 today.

CAT ASTROLOGY:

SCORPIO CAT

The Scorpio Cat is a powerful cat with more than a mere sting in his or her tail. This resourceful and intelligent feline will delight in organizing things and people, finding the normal business of the domestic cat to be boring and mundane. Determination is the guiding force of the Scorpio Cat...and it is indeed a force to be reckoned with. Felines in general are never easy to fathom and this particular feline is akin to a never-ending pit, being secretive, self-controlled and devious. But, the Scorpio Cat will not hover by a radiator and shiver...he or she is far more likely to sit by the refrigerator, washing his or her paws. If the owner offers food and not heat then, in the eyes of the Scorpio Cat, that owner has failed. Conversely, he or she will be deeply intuitive of others where feelings are concerned, possessing the gift of empathy and the ability to read emotions. A Scorpio Cat usually does best with a Scorpio owner. However, a native of Cancer would also a good choice, despite the fact that both are strong-minded, tenacious and complex. One Paw Forward, Three Paws Back?

I thought I would let all know how Beau is adapting to his new life in New Jersey.

I need to confide in you - I am worried.

Friday marked the 2nd week of his journey North,

and he has not ventured forth from his hiding corner except for his basic needs.

He eats his kibble, but has forsaken what was his beloved Gerber Baby Food treat.

I insist he receive only spring or filtered water, and have to hope he is getting it.

Because of her multiple disabilities, and being over the level where she qualifies for Home Health Aide assistance, Barbara finds herself in an untidy environment.

Perfect for a Senior Gentlemancat who wishes to hide.

But I wish he would come out.

As of this writing, he has not allowed Barbara to pet him.

He ventures out to play only with the wand toys, just a little bit, and then retreats.

He still occasionally hisses at her.

My heart is breaking for him, so last Saturday, I insisted on seeing him.

I did not like the comments "Oh I can hear him back there" day in and day out.

I have orthopaedic issues with my right knee and back, old riding injuries.

(or should I say, "falling injuries"?)

If I had to move stacks of magazines chairs and a dinosaur of a computer Barb is keeping for sentimental reasons, I was prepared to do that.

It is behind the computer where Beau has sought sanctuary.

Upon seeing me, he hissed, ears slightly back.

Instead of trying to speak in a Very Bad Southern accent, I just began to speaking to him as I do to my kits.

Especially to my Big Red Texas Mancat.

He hissed twice more, but with ears perked and looking at me with a confused expression.

I have had animals non-stop since my early memories, and I can read body language of not just cats, but dogs, horses, heck, even chickens and roosters!

So, I had Beau interested in me!

I underestimated the obstacles between me and Beau, so instead of trying to clear the way, which may have prompted him to seek shelter elsewhere, I reached behind me for a fev-ver wand toy.

I began to tease Our Gentleman Beau, accusing him of being "all Hiss and no Action"!

In a position I hope to one day study comfortably in a Yoga class, I played with Beau while stretched to my current brink. As a parting test, I put the toy down, and reached in to touch him, but he was far from my grasp, rubbish be damned.

But he didn't hiss!

While Barbara loves him, mostly sight unseen, and she does provide for him as best she can,

I have a fear this Adoption is not "taking".

Barbara's desire to keep Beau is not in my opinion the best thing for him.

The toys so kindly sent to him remain untouched, even lost among items Barbara can not pick up.

I have enlisted the help of Our Property Manager, who is a truly lovely woman, and cares for Barbara's physical as well as emotional well-being.

At this point in time, I am nearly certain I need to take Beau away from her, but due to past emotional issues, this will be difficult without causing great emotional pain.

Carol, our Property Manager

in conjunction with Barbara's Clinician need to convince Barbara it is for Beau's good he come to live with me, "for the time being".

I need to ask in earnest for all your prayers and purrayers to ease this further transition for Our Gentleman Beau and for the safety that will let Barbara release Beau into my care.

Until we receive further word from Beau's Aunt Teresa.

I would also appreciate a prayer or two as well, because while I wrestle with this issue and pray for a quick resolution for Beau's Final Forever Home,

Brutus has been coughing more frequently and longer each time.

I take my culpability on fully, and if I had questioned Barbara in depth, perhaps I could have avoided this issue.

But I know only what Barbara was willing to share.

We need a speedy resolution, I would so love this to happen this week.

But in God's time, not mine.

Again, please pray for the best outcome for Beau, and for healing and if needed, acceptance on Mom Barbara's part.

I have had contingency plans all along in the event Beau needs to come in with Us.

He will have full access to my bedroom, while the Royals make his acquaintance through the door.

He will be well.

Gentleman Beau is a Survivor.

I recognize that in him.

With your prayers and God's hand,

and Beau's Angel Mom, Cathy looking on, we will assure Beau a Happily Ever After.

I WAS JUST SPEAKING TO BARBARA.

It seems Beau has been leaving, uhhh, what The Royals know as

"Ca Ca Poo Poo" -

RIGHT IN FRONT OF BARBARA'S DOOR!

This is the first I've heard about it.

There IS a medium Lab Mix that lives in the apartment across from her.

I had told Barbara to find an old towel to put under the door, so the doggie smell doesn't come in.

She is unable to do that.

THIS IS WHERE PRAYER IS WORKING!!

I made the suggestion that Beau is obviously nervous and not happy.

Why not allow him to live with Us until he's settled in, and gradually get him to know her again.

She has agreed!

So, please KEEP THE PRAYERS COMING!

Gentleman Beau may well be living with Us by Weeks' End!

Beau and Brutus Share The Word ~ and a Blankie

When I first saw the photos of Beau that Teresa had sent me, the last photos taken in the only home he knew, Cathy's home, my heart broke a little.

Beau looked like he knew he was on a long journey and was in a sense sad that there was no turning back.

Today's photo I share with you of Our Brutus, you will notice he is snuggled into the same blankie Cathy had on her bed that was Beau's "nest".

Barbara is due over for supper later today, and I wanted to unpack the ginormous box "Aunt T" had sent of Beau's things to make way!

I put the blanket on my table for just the time being, while I took the box out to recycling.

When I came back, there I found Brutus in what looks to be a very restful, comfy snuggle.

He must know Beau and Cathy by their scents.

And he loves them,

by their scents.

It's been close to 2 hours and Brutus is now asleep in the little nest Beau and Cathy shared for years.

Now, I know where to shop for a similar blankie for Brutus,

but how ever can I replicate the Scent of Love Beau and Cathy shared, and in which Our Brutus is peacefully resting?

A Room with a View

I do understand your concerns for Beau, as mine are One Hundredfold that he acclimate to his new environment and Momma Barb who in NO WAY can mean or take the place of Cathy in Beau's precious furry heart.

I apologise as I take my own turn with illness, beginning Tuesday afternoon and still am unwell.

What I can tell you is that Beau seems to be playing "hard to get" with his new Lady Barbara.

Whilst she was out yesterday morning, she knew he'd been about the room exploring for the things left in different places: ex: her spider plant.

In our building, Management doesn't allow us to hang anything from the ceilings, and that would be the ideal home for a spider plant.

So as second best, Barbara has been keeping hers on the windowsill.

We are fortunate in this building to have oversized windowsills.

Windowsills big enough for a 21 lb. Texas ManCat with NO "spillage" over the side.

Barbara's flat faces the South, and has sun all day.

Beau didn't need a compass to find the sunpuddle.

I imagined in my mind a most stressed Gentlemancat finally finding a source of warmth and sunshine, stretching out to full length, plant be damned and having a snooze.

His appetite is still good. I had given Barbara a little 4 oz cup and asked her to place just that amount of kibble in to see if Beau was getting his nutrition in, and she later reported she needed to refill the bowl.

Excellent.

He also utilized the -eh- Gentleman's facilities.

Yes, Mama Barb had poop to scoop.

Another interesting point I will share with you, and that was my perhaps mistaken notion that Beau was strictly a "Lady's Gentleman Cat".

Well, Beau and Barbara's brother Jerome

are "Bro's".

Jerome does a great deal for Barbara in and out of her apartment, he's a Godsend of a brother.

Beau liked that about him.

Even afterwards, while he plays hide and seek with Barbara, the day when Jerome was making room for Beau's kennel (which to my eye is too wide open, and I have plans for) Beau came out and sat just a few feet away from Jerome, watching intently. When Jerome started a new task, Beau stayed out, watching him. Finally, Jerome put some food down for Beau, and Beau had a nosh, of course ears in all directions and still cautious.

Jerome is now a fan of Beau's.

I can almost see the two of them "taking in a game" on the weekend, together.

Barbara ( and this is between us ) I think is afraid of my camera, for as long as she had it she didn't capture any pictures.

I did the first night when I went to check on him.

A trunk of arts and crafts supplies under a table is a small favourite hidey-hole of his.

Very Bad angle and too bright a flash, but the best I could do given the spot he's found for now.

Now, Beau has been out and about, the other night (forgive me, the past three days have merged in together, since my Migraine began, so bear with me)

Barbara did say one evening he spent the time out in the open, but not yet jumping on her bed and such.

I've received the package from Aunt Teresa, Peggy McNamara and Oui Oui and family Tuesday.

I will again ask your forgiveness as I am currently having the type of migraine that makes my pillows feel like boulders and every little noise cacophonous.

I do not get them nearly as often as Our ML does, but nevertheless on my own level, they are incapacitating.

PLEASE BELIEVE ME!

No News DOES NOT MEAN BAD NEWS!

It simply means the beans surrounding Beau are themselves feeling poorly.

This is all I have for you today about Beau.

Would anyone like to know how My Royals are doing??

I take my responsibility to heart and with every ounce of duty that Beau has been re homed in what I believe is a good mission for him, because his new Lady needs him in so very many ways.

OMNOMNOMNOM!!!

Beau has a good apptite!

Last night my phone rang at nearly 10 pm. I saw "Barbara n Beau" on my caller ID and my heart lept into my throat.

It didn't get to ring a second time.

I feared for both of them, to be honest.

But the fears were unfounded, as Barbara simply called me to let me know, as I had asked her to, when Beau came out in the open to eat and more importantly at this stage, to drink water.

Late afternoon Barbara needed to take a pain medication, and went to lie down.

Now if you read the update from the last post,

Beau had given up his sanctuary under Mama Barb's bed, and came out to sit under her TV in the living room.

He also began to "talk" with her!

She had been speaking to Beau since his arrival, in her soft way, and joked she hoped her neighbor didn't think she was talking to herself!

Well, the medication did it's job, and her pain lifted enough for her to drift into sleep.

As she slowly woke, she heard " 'sp 'sp 'sp" and looked down to her right, where her brother had cleared a special corner all Beau's, and he was drinking water!

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!!

Before she went to lie down, she "spoke" to Beau, still by the TV at that point, and asked if he wanted some of his special treat-chicken baby food.

I know Barbara was probably eager to feed "her son" from a baby food jar, and as she opened the jar, Beau's head lifted and he mewed at her.

She told him to "come and get it", then climbed into bed.

She was so pleased to see him out in the open!

She said he seemed to startle when she said his name, as if he wanted to bolt for cover, then apparently changed his mind, and finished his drink.

But she wanted me to come over to check on him, because she felt he may have had a seizure.

I assured her he was vetted and is good health, but wanted to check things out anyway. I also remembered to take my camera over to her, now that Beau is in a more "Walkabout" mood.

I saw leftover baby food, and asked how long it had been there, and advised her to do as I do with the Royals, what they don't finish of wet food in 2-3 hours to take it up and toss it away.

But I wondered aloud if he had eaten any of it.

She said "Oh, he 'et some! That's his second helping!"

I think today is Stinky Goodness day, broaden his palate for other "chicken dishes"!

The one photo I did snap of him is still on the camera, and I as Barbara was "admiring" my camera, I said "I want it back, you know - with lots of pictures!"

Hopefully, by Tuesday we will have some to post.

When Barbara said " 'et some", it reminded me of how Southerners pronounce the past tense of "ate" differently than us Northerners. Barbara's family are originally from Missouri, but this is the first time I ever detected a regional dialect in Barbara's voice.

Hmmmm...a bit over 24 hours and already she's picking up Beau's accent!

In the absense of a photo of "my Nephew", I'd like to show you Brutus' new favourtie snuggle spot.

Walmart does a nice mail-order business, I haven't been disappointed yet.

However, they DO love to package things - individually, with plenty of packing material!

The litter pan I ordered for Beau came alone, in a pretty good sized box.

Well, have a look!

There's enough box there for TWO 21 lb. Texas Man Cats!

Emily tries it on for size, but generally gets evicted in no uncertain terms!

So, things are moving along, and Barbara thanks everyone for helping her find her forever cat.

UPDATE!
Beau is now under Mama Barbara's TV!
This is true progress!
Barbara generally has the TV on and her apartment is small enough, if one wanted to, you could switch channels without the remote.
Well, nearly so!
I take this move in locale to mean that Beau was seeking out company'and noticed his Mama wan't coming to bed anytime soon!
Also, Barbara was making dinner for herself at the time, so he may have smelled Home Cooking!
He will settle in nicely.
PS: Mama Barbara has asked for some prayer, as she faces a visit to her Doctor on Monday that will determine if she is to have surgery or an outpatient, less invasive procedure.
She thanks everyone for keeping an interest in Beau and feels Blessed to have her "son" with her.

Hello everyone!

I'm sorry updates are few and slow to post.

Photos will take a bit longer as well, as I just finished speaking to Miss Barbara.

She told me after Beau had a good sniff about the apartment, he secluded himself where all cats in strange environments are known to do;

Yes, he is under her bed!

Barbara moved his water and kibble next to the bed, and continues to softly speak to him.

I will be going over shortly to place one of Angel Mom Cathy's blankets that accompanied him in his travels near where I can see him. We think this will help.

If anyone thinks riding in the back seat of a stretch limo is High Society, well then "High Society" must also like to ride in the back of a pick-up truck, because we felt every little (and a few quite large!) potholes!

The highways we had to travel to the sirport are (in)famous for their heavy traffic, and have a tendency to go from 2 lanes to 3, then merge back to 2.

There was a very unwelcome and in my opinion Unprofessional "surprise" dropped on me when we got to LaGuardia Airport, and I stepped out to retrieve Beau. (his flight, I would estimate, came in nearly a half hour earlier than we arrived. In the "Priorit Packages" area there was an attendant and it was very quiet.)

As I was walking in the Owner/Operator of the Limo Service called someone on his cell and I heard "You landed When?!"

Mind you, he placed the call, I did not hear the phone ring as I had been all along the ride up, as he answered it as his business phone.

When I wobbled out carrying Beau and his Mini-Castle (?!), the man, Dennis wondered aloud if it would even fit in the door! (ref: the photo ML posted! It cleared by mere inches!)

I was quite cross as he made no effort to carry the crate for me at all.

After he edged Beau & Castle into the back and sat him down on the side seat, he tells me he was on the phone with his neice. He said she was supposed to come into JFK Airport that evening, but instead her flight had landed and she was waiting at the Terminal.

He asked me if I'd mind his going to pick her up "JFK is only about 10 minutes from here". He forgot that 10 minutes was as the crow flies!

This added an additional 50 minutes to Beau's already 90 minute car ride to his new home!

I waved in the air and bit my tongue, as I could not trust what might come out!

I believe I had the right to tell him, "Take us home first, call your neice and tell her to have a coffee and you will be back for her!"

Do you think that would have been wrong?!

Well, it's all past. I'm a Yankee Girl at heart, and I'm still stewing that he made no effort to help me carry Beau into my building, either!

I just may have to speak to him.

We Are Not Amused!

Barbara was totally suprised when I knocked on her door, as I never go over unannounced, nor she here, as that is the way we both were brought up.

But the light on her face when she saw who was with me!

"It's Beau!"

I sadly by that time had to drag the kennel as it was too heavy for me to manage any longer, adding to poor Beau's stress, no doubt.

I also brought over the things purchased from Walmart to get Beau situated in his new abode.

We put down a bowl of spring water (it's true-if you drink Jersey Water, you run the risk of glowing in the dark!) and kibble Aunt Teresa had taped to the top of the kennel.

Barbara has decided the kennel can be Beau's little "ManCatCave" if he would like once he ventures out again!

The lack of photos are entirely due to the rough ride we had as the car drove off.

The one photo ML posted was taken while we were still stationary.

Below is the one photo I tried to take as Beau was really not as stressed as he looked in the one clear photo!

His ears were perked forward, his pupils were of normal size and reactive to the light, and at times he sat up as tall as he could to see out the window!

He was a very brave Gentleman Cat!

I made a Daily Journal for Barbara to jot down things about Beau. We can refer to it as we do our Beau Updates!

What??! No 'Nip Juleps?!!

Grrrrrrrr....

The East side of Manhattan was in Beau's line of vision on our return trip.

The Brooklyn Bridge was also a new site for Our Southern Gentleman, Beau!

Crossing the Narrows between Brooklyn and Staten Island ~

stories are told about "infamous people" who may be in the Varrazano Bridge's footings, helping to "hold the Bridge up!!

As Beau "decompresses" from all the changes he has and is now experiencing, it is, and should be comforting to know he is in a home where he is Well and Truly Loved.

About 20 minutes after I left the two to get acquainted, I get a call from Barbara.

My heart dropped just a little, but Barbara just called to tell me "Beau is just King of the Castle Here! He's roaming all around, sniffing out everything!"

We marveled how brave he must be and how tired as well, and both expected him to find a favorite hidey place for a few weeks.

And then Barbara said, and I'll never forget the sound of her voice:

"Can you hear how happy I am?!"

There IS a lot of love there, and I felt a sense of peace, and a bit of the "warm and fuzzys",

because I sincerely believe Beau's Angel Mom Cathy is there with her precious Gentleman Cat, and with Beau's adopted momma, Barbara.

Beau's Aunt Teresa will be taking Beau to meet his flight, American Airlines # 4656,

departing 10:29am Central time.

It is a 764mi/2hour,9 minute flight.

Beau will arrive at NewYork's LaGuardia Airport

at 1:29pm EST.

(side note: AA has an 77% "On Time" average, so QM will have to dust off her Patience in the event of a delay)

A Car service was chosen based on name alone:

Blessed Limos of Edison NJ.

When Dennis, the owner asked how we came to select his services, we just commented of all those in the phone book, "Blessed Limo" seemed like a good ride!

Once Beau is collected at American Airlines "Priority Parcel" terminal, it will be a good 1 1/2 hour drive home, if no one sneezes.

In any event, We expect to be surprising New Mom Barbara at about 4:30pm.

Barbara has no camera, so we will have to loan her ours, with the stipulation she return it by Monday! That may sound mean, but Miss Barbara has a tendency to "collect" things.

At present, she has 1 of our dinner plates and the last 2 of our "company drinking glasses"!!

We need to thank those who are sending up Kitty Shower pressies (I haven't mention them to Barbara yet!) and the donations went entirely for litter pans, scoops, bowls, litter, food and a few toys to welcome him to his new home, until Aunt Teresa has a chance to send his personal things up.

In the package, there will be a few things of Angel Mom's Cathy - a pillow, perhaps a sweater, and a few other things.

Barbara has crocheted an afghan for Beau already, so Beau will have all the time he needs to acquaint himself with his Mom II whilst he senses his Angel Mom with him always.

Gentleman Cat Beau and his New Forever Home

Gentleman Beau will be living with Our Neighbour, Barbara Shephard, who has been longing for a pet!

When she still lived with her parents, she told me, she routinely had several random canines AND felines share her bed with her!

Barbara is Disabled, and as such finds herself home bound much of the time.

When I "introduced" her to Beau online, and spoke of his Mom Cathy having passed from her Earthly Pains to live with Our Lord, Barbara remarked that Cathy was young (younger than either one of us, by a few years) and "just starting out in life".

We did discuss how it may take Beau time, weeks perhaps to acclimate himself to his new home and New Adoptive Momma, but as I know from experience, Barbara is the soul of patience!

While in the hospital first last year, and then again this past January, Barbara came over, well, several times, to check on the Royals, take out their precious Temptations and feed them to all three Royals one at a time.

For Brutus? THAT is remarkable! He insists I serve them by the Texas Handful!

I'm very sorry for startling some of you on Saturday, but I woke to disturbing news; news I did not think could be resolved or repaired, and I was, to say the least, in Deep Mourning.
Friends are very special Beings, because God only allocates so very precious Few of them to us, over a Lifetime!
Well, be that as it may, we were touched and saddened that we caused such an uproar in a time meant to celebrate the Lady and Kitty behind The Cat Blogosphere.
We Never meant to Steal Anyone's Thunder! (QM's old Theatre Manager Lingo-need to know it's meaning? Leave a comment! We'll get right back to you!)

QM has seen more Labor Day Holidays come and go than She is willing to admit to here. It was in one comment, on The Island Cats' Blog, that She realised what Labor Day actually is.

"Here’s a little secret from Your Yankee Royals…iffen a certaim Politikal Partee has it’s way, “Labor Day” will become Extinct!! YES!! See, Labor Day was meant to celebrate Workers’ Rights and Safety, and the Workers formed “Unions”. Well, there are those Hoomins who are greedy for the green papers, so many they could never spend them in Our Nine Lives, that they will break down these Hoomin Unions. And then, No safety for Our Hoomins, No fair working hours for Our hoomins…No fair green papers for our hoomins…Sad…If Our hoomins suffer, We suffer…that’s just Our opinion on things, as we’re not Really Royal, after all...

Dusting off the Royals

Happy Thursday!

Quite a few folks are getting ready today to make an early start at the Official Last Holiday Weekend of Summer.

Where did it all go?

We have had a horrendous summer, and truth be told, are quite relieived We made it through and glad to see the end of it.

We didn't plan it to be this way.

We looked forward to fun times in the nearby park on occasions where there were festivals and fireworks.

But Our heart just wasn't in it.

Not this year.

The Greatest Blessing is Our Brutus is Healthy, and is responding well to his "d-i-e-t"!

He will even awaken Us early -

to Play!

He has a certain "whiney" miaw

when he's ready for action!

As you can see from the above photos, both Brutus and Marigold earn their naptime and those naps would not be quite as restful anywhere else but on their Hairy Blankie that Aunt Marilynn, Momma Grace and "The Boys" mum, and Our Beloved Mum II, ML sent them, with their Love!

We ask that you please forgive the fuzziness of the photos. At present, Our real Flashy Box is well, on Hiatus awaiting "parts", and so QM has had to try Her hand at using her "Smart Phone" for photos.

At Her age and mental status,

Her hands are not as steady as they should be.

Also, We suspect Her Smart Phone has a higher IQ than She does.

Saturday Vet Visit

The kitties are all in good health with the exception of Brutus, who has been sick.

The vet gave him shots and antibiotics and may need to see him again.

She did use the dreaded "D" word (d-i-e-t) for Brutus.

Other than that, the Royals are fine!

Wildfires of Texas

I read one person's account early last week, describing what my mind can't really comprehend: she described how she witnessed horses, burning alive and fruitlessly trying to run for safety.

Human lives are in danger, one Firefighter has already died in the line of duty.

I have to admit, this seemed somewhat abstract at first. Huge hundred acre ranches burning as the families watched. Ranches far from any recognizable towns I had heard of, is now becoming closer to "home" to me. The latest reports I have heard is the fires are now approaching the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

No, this Metropolitan Area may not be in imminent danger, but without having more than an inch of rain in many months, it seems nothing is corrently in sights to control this Killer Wildfire.

This is why We All need to keep the State of Texas close to our thoughts and prayers. This is where so many of God's Creatures live peacefully and in harmony with the land - until Nature somehow miscalculates, and creates lethal conditions.

Please remember to join in and pray for All God's Creatures who may be in the path of this raging fire, and pray that it ceases to exist soon, so that in time, the scorched Earth can be replaced with Bright, Sweet Grass.

It  is just that QM found out t'day she has complikations frum th' surjury  the Human Cutting V-E-T- did to her last week and now she's very hurty  and swollen in her tummy an' may have to go back to that terribil place  that made her smell real awful when she came home Friday! After she came  outa the rain room, she smelt more like Our Mum, but she hasnt wanted  noms and we's can't lay on her belly fur scritches nomore!

for luncheon.

the first feline to hold that prestigious Title.

Today, Chef would like to share with you a Treat

for your Hooman Companions.

This is an Old Sicilian Recipe, a biscuit known as

L'Ossa del Morte

"Bones of the Dead"

This is a traditional treat, actually available in Good Italian bakeries year 'round.

Queen Mum's Mum, also named Rose, (now residing at The Bridge)

used to use these cookies when QM was an infant, to help with "teething"

They are also good with wine!

Please DON'T OFF BY THE OVERALL PREP TIME!

Just a little planning, and this recipe will yield about 30 servings!

This particular recipe was developed by a Chef on Allrecipes.com

by the username of BILLSFRAN

Prep Time: 20 20 minutes ~ REST TIME: 12 HOURS! (Overnight)

Bake Time: approx. 15 minutes

Servings: Approx 30

INGREDIENTS:

1 pound confectioner's sugar

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

2 1/2 tsp baking powder

2 1/2tsp ground cloves

3 eggs, lightly beaten

Directions:

1. Sift together the sugar, flour, baking powder and cloves. Make a well in the mixture

and pour the eggs into the well. Work the eggs into the mixture, first with a fork, then with your hands, until you have a smooth dough.

2: Line a baking sheet with foil. Roll dough into 1 inch rolls, (resembling tootsie rolls!)

and place each biscuit on the prepared baking sheet. Cover with a clean teatowel and let rest overnight.

Biscuits will spread!

3: Preheat an oven to 350F (175 degrees C)

4: Bake in the preheated oven until golden, about 15 minutes.

Remove biscuits from the pan immediately as they come out of the oven or they will stick.

Cool completely on a wire rack.

And there you have it!

Chef does hope you try these for All Hallow's Eve - they will keep quite long...at least through 2nd November. (All Souls' Day.)

That is, unless your Hooman consumes with a nice bottle of Claret and looses all self-control!

Yes, We faced some serious health issues, and want to

posted and asking for the purrs & prayers.

As always, they were granted!

Brutus saw his Special V-E-T on July 3rd,

received an injection of Depo-Medrol and hasn't wheezed or coughed since, not once!

As for me, I was in hospital 3 days. I threatened to leave

Against Medical Advice if not discharged

so I could return to My Royals, as

no one, Except their Auntie ML, of course,

knew they were alone.

I am currently completing a series of Iron infusions

that, if Dr. Sidhom, Our Hematologist-Oncologist is satisfied with the lab results,

should end by next week.

No internal bleed has been found.

The Doctors are now simply leaning to a dietary insufficiency,

or Malabsorption Syndrome.

We feel so much better now!

Even the color in Our cheeks have returned!

~The Royals Salute Our Troops in Afghanistan!!~

Kiki and US Marine Brian Chambers

Kittehs Kiki and Keykey have found a home in the midst of war. And it’s all thanks to three US Marines, Brian Chambers, Chris Berry and Aaron Shaw. They started a mission to help find homes for stray cats that they found while serving in Afghanistan. After finding Keykey injured by a c-wire, Berry took care of his wounds and nursed him back to health and the two of them have been best friends every since.

And now Keykey is living with Berry’s parents in Michigan while Kiki is living with Chambers’ parents in Texas and both are enjoying their new loving homes! Those Marines are definitely heroes in our book as is also the group of Royal Marines that started the organization called Nowzad in 2007. This organization rescues stray and abandoned animals in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Men who are expected to be "killing machines" succumbing to the sweet soft furry purrs of a kitteh!

In Loving Tribute to Grandma Taylor

When the Royals first came to Us, a friendship developed between me and Auntie Deb. Deb is the consummate mom: wanting to know daily the growing up and escapades of Brutus and Marigold.

Our phone calls became daily, and included how her daughters were growing into women, recipe exchanges, and all manner of things.

One morning I woke up with a verse in my head that something told me was from the Bible, but I couldn't place it. When I spoke to Deb later that day, I asked her if she was familiar with it, and she too had "heard it somewhere" but couldn't place where.

"I know who can answer this!" and she made a three-way call to Grandma Taylor.

An introduction over the phone was as good as in person, and Mrs. Taylor immediately became someone I wished I could spend hours with!

Deb had me recite the bits and pieces of the mystery scripture to her, and she, too was puzzled.

It was agreed she would "look into it" and get back to Deb.

While we chatted on the phone, I was doodling with searches, and finally came across where the lines from my dream came from: The Prayer of St Francis of Assisi.

Deb immediately called her very much loved Mother-in-law back and told her that we had found it. By that time, Grandma Taylor had her Bible research books out and was puzzling and searching away for those familiar words! She was glad (and maybe a tad relieved!) that I had finally found the tricky lines within a "Catholic" poem, and that would explain why she couldn't place it in the Bible, as well!

In my memories, I have a vivid picture of a vivacious God- devoted woman who would be a formidable opponent for her brilliant Grand-daughters, Tatum and Sloane on any board game imagined.

Well into her 80's she provided the "Car-pool" Sunday mornings to safely usher her friends, or whoever needed the ride, to Services at Church, and returned them safely home.

St. Francis is the Patron Saint of Animals. The Prayer written by him is befitting and comforting, and I would like to share it with you here.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Rose is home from the hospital and Brutus did get to see the vet.

She is extremely worried about her cats, she has no one close to look in on them.

PRAYER OF A STRAY

Dear God, Please send me somebody who'll care! I'm tired of Running, I'm sick with despair. My Body is Aching, It's so racked with pain, and Dear God I pray as I run in the rain that someone will love me and give me a home, a wam cozy bed and a big juicy bone. My last owner tied me all day in the yard sometimes with no water and God that was hard. So I chewed my leash God and I ran away to rummage in Garbage and live as a stray. But Now God I'm tired and hungry and cold. and I'm so afraid that I'll never grow old. They chased me with sticks and hit me with stones while I run the streets just looking for bones. I'm not really bad God, Please help if you can, for I have become just a "VICTIM OF MAN!" I'm wormy Dear God and I'm ridden with fleas and all that I want is an owner to please. If you find one for me God, I'll try to be good and I wont chew their shoes, but I'll do as I should. I'll love them, protect them, and try to obey when they tell me to sit, lie down, or to stay! I don't think I'll make it too long on my own, cause I'm getting so weak and I'm so all alone. Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry, cause I'm so afraid God, that I'm going to die. And I've got so much love and devotion to give, that I should be given a new chance to live. So Dear God please, Please answer my prayer and send me somebody who will really care.Author unknown.

ManCat Monday ~ Chef Brutus!

We thought we would begin a new series of cookery posts featuring Brutus who, possessing such a refined palate, became Sous Chef to The Queen Mum and her Consort nearly a year ago.

QM's Consort, Michael, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, was Brutus' inspiration to make the kitchen His favourite room (aside from being where Stinky Goodness and Chik-hen Tem-Tay-Shuns were always served).

Now, not only does He have a paw in the daily menu, he has earned the title "Chef" and hoped you would enjoy sharing some of His Favourite Recipes.

Today's offering is a recipe that caught Chef Brutus' eye whilst lying across QM's forearms as She attempted to scan the innerwebs for recipes, one of Her favourite past times.

This is from a Cat and Kitten Cookery Book downloaded from the 'web entitled

"Pamper Your Cat: 100 Recipes for your Feline Friend"

Chik-Hen Cheezburgers

2 oz finely ground beef (can substitute any preferred protein if, like Us, you're not fond of beef)

2 oz finely ground chik-hen

1 Tbsp. canned cream of Chik-Hen soup (or a Tbsp of Chik-Hen Baby Food! Num!)

2 oz whole grain bread crumbs (unseasoned) or oatmeal

1 baby carrot, cooked until soft.

1 egg

1/2 cup shredded cheese, any kind that pleases!

Preheat broiler.

Mash the meat and chik-hen with the soup then add the bread crumbs (or oatmeal), mushy carrot and egg. Make into two small burgers and broil (leaving much rarer than you would for yourself! Approx. 2-3 minutes). Sprinkle with shredded cheese and broil again until the cheese is melted. Allow to cool until warm to the touch. Garnish with fresh grass or catnip, and serve.

Depending on your felines, serves 1-2.

Mom Laura has decided, to bring Maxie home and make memories for a few days, then have him helped to the Bridge. Surgery will run about $6,000 and involves putting a stent in to hold his esophagus open. It was severely burned during an average dental procedure due to negligence by the vet. They are beyond upset and sad over this development. If anyone could help with an idea for a loan, please contact Mom Laura or even KC. They may be able to get the price of this surgery down somewhat.

We all know God does miracles.

The fact that a price is being put on poor Maxies' survival is sickening.

If you can follow the linkie to Maxie's page, (above) use the Paypal button there to donate (however much your heart tells you to!) towards Mom Laura's expenses, perhaps the sickness in heart and spirit within their home will lift,

and compassion will touch the treating Vet's Heart.

Status Update: Brutus

We Are Improving!

I had been coughing every few days throughout April. When We had Dr. Elliott visit us, she could not hear anything amiss, so she advised QM to keep an eye on me, and to call in any changes.

Well, throughout May, my cough increased in frequency until on Thursday morning, May 27th, QM timed my coughing spells to 1 every 30 minutes or so.

She had prednisone, and as sneaky as ever, made me take that nasty pill 3 times that morning.

The next day, QM rang Dr. Elliott up asking for advice.

Nothing new in the flat~same litter, Stinky Goodness and kibble, even some Healthy Treats sent to Us by a Lovely Lady, Jamie Smith of Thoughtsfurpaws.com !

Organic, healthy stuff, plus a new toys and Healthy Kibble!

Dr. Elliott advised her to give me my prednisone on a new dose schedule, and I heard something about a "neb-U-lizer".

In the mean time, I'm being good!

~I'm getting plenty of rest!~

Good Nutrition is im-paw-tent!

QM had the makings for Cheezburgers at the ready!

We had hope he would have an easy Spring, but it doesn't appear to be the case.

The Royals all now have been dutifully certified as being in good health, and have 2 certificates each to prove it!

One attests to Our Landlord that We are entitled residence in this dwelling with the Queen Mum.

The second will be witness to anyone wishing to see it, that The Royals, albeit

solely indoor-dwelling for Their Safekeeping ( Not to mention, Our Rooms are on the fifth level of a block of flats), have been vaccinated with a Rabies Vaccine, per local laws and ordinances.

On Monday Eve, Our QM heard a light knock at our front entrance.

When she opened the door, not a soul was in sight, yet at Her feet lay 2 BOXES!

Being as she was on "the inside track" as to the origins of these lovely USPS Parcels,

HM Queen Emily In Her Wisdom knew it was, along with Faith Boomerang and Sol, and Our very dear furriend K.C.

Daddy Charlie had lent a hand, as did Smokey and of Course, Dame Missy Blue Eyes.

All could not mistake the sweet, loving and all embracing essence of Our Most Beloved Auntie ML!

My, but the parcels smelled delish!

All dutifully inspected each pressie as QM lifted them out of the first box, which included a lovely reversible blankie in a "cool Retro Print" (description courtesy of Marigold, The Princess Emo of the 'Scene') of lovely cats on an olive green background, which came with a coordinating plushie toy.

This blankie was further enhanced with the freshest organic 'Nip, the quality of which Aunie ML has set the standard for.

BUT THE BEST BOX, in Brutus' opinion was the second one, which upon opening seemingly contain a mother-lode of the treat to end all treats, Tem - Tay - Shuns, Chick-hen flavour!

Oh, how beautiful the pile became as each and every bag was placed upon the table, that between the fresh Organic 'Nip, the new plush blankie and a mound of yellow bags with that siren-like crackle when touched, that all manners were forgotten by the Prince, and He did as any Mancat would do:

Laid Claim to the lot of it!

This is all well and good, as tomorrow morning the Royals meet with Dr. Elliot for their wellness check and most importantly, documents attesting to their robust health.

It is such a beautiful Spring day here in New Jersey today! Not a cloud to mask the perfect, tranquel blue of the sky, and Our Trees have come alive, allowing Us to once again "Hear the River in the Trees"! (E.Dickinson)

While visiting K.C. at The Cat Blogosphere, We read an update from Hansel that there was a contest being held by CLEAN+GREEN, a company that specializes in Green Cleaning products to aid in the pleasant cohabitation We so treasure with Our Furchildren.

Queen Mum is most interested in their product Furniture Refresher. Last December, when we were presented with a lovely gift from the Parish of St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Iselin, NJ, HM Queen Emily felt the need to, well, present Her Graces upon the lovely Queen Anne Sofa. Queen Mum has tried to correct this - erm - overexuberance displayed by HM, with a tried, true and eco-friendly mixture of water, vinegar and essential oils. Whilst masking the distinctive scent of HM for a short time, it has proven alas, ineffective over time.

The Queen Mum is keen on trying CLEAN+GREEN's Furniture Refresher, that She felt you, Our Most Valued Blessing ~ Our friends, may like to go to their website and, while the contest has been kindly extended, take advantage of the Sport offered!

We are amazed by the outpouring of care, concern and affection shown by our sisfurs and brofurs, both Woofies and Kittehs, and of course their Hooman Beans, that it is only fitting we pause and give thanks and praise to Our Creator on High for His many blessings, through His Beans and Furchildren that were shown to Us this week.

We paws at every moment to lift up Our furriends in the Cat Blogosphere to hear Our prayer for the safety, healing and Angelic support through their own trying times.

Happy Tuesday, furriends of the CB!

I just want to take a moment to give our heartfelt thanks for the care and concern regarding the 'exclusive' that KC reepurrted on a few days ago. Things look now to be halfway resolved, and We will be able to breathe easier after May 5th. At least, until the next gauntlet is thrown. Ahh, to be Royal even in Recessionary times!

Also, I wanted to introduce you to Our Veterinarians of Choice, collectively known as http://www.vetdispatch.com/ Dr. Hansen of the group is scheduled to pay the Royals a visit on May 5th for a wellness exam and to provide some documentation needed to attest that they are not man-eaters. A Very Long, sordid story that KC has the background scoop on, if you're wondering!

Today, I have to share a footsie rarely seen by mere commoners...that of HM Queen Emily. Certain parts of her 'leather bits" are pink - but, like her nose, and as you'll see, her tootsies, are black! The Basic Fashion Colors that should carry her through Day into Night Attire, with the addition of an accessory or two...or so We've read somewhere.
